Onuma

The host organization is Milestone 22 is a local NGO set up to promote voluntary service and international exchange. Though Onuma lake has been a popular tourism spot for a long time because of its beautiful scenery, it has been polluted by over use of agricultural chemicals by cattle farming and erosion from abandoned forests with non-native trees. A leader of Fishermen’s Co-operative has bought a forest and wants to restore it to its native roots. Volunteers will cut non-native trees out and plant native trees to create a better forest around the lake.

Trsic is a small village famous as the birth place of Vuk Karadzic, the reformist of Serbian language and orthography. Today it is a place very much visited by tourists. The work camp is a joint initiative of several local partner organisations working together on introducing the spirit of voluntarism and developing and improving rural and eco tourism in Trsic (www.kamp-trsic.org.rs). The goal is to educate local people and motivate them to be active citizens in preserving the nature and other values for the sake of generations to come.

QUIET MOUNTAIN I

Our local partner, Jastrebacki trougao, organises a “Point to point” type of mountain bike marathon at Mountain Jastrebac, one of the national natural resorts of outstanding beauty. Work: Volunteers will mark the tracks and put them into order for the mountain bike marathon that will be held on the 26th of June. Marathon has 3 different tracks (30km, 50km and 65km). The terrain we’ll prepare for the marathon is approximately 75km.

ZLAKUSA

The village Zlakusa finds its place between the beautiful mountains of Zlatibor, Tara and Mokra gora. It is famous for its pottery, 60km of marked hiking paths through stunning nature, rivers rich in salmons, trumpet players and well preserved ethno villages presenting the highest form of rural tourism to its guests. Zlakusa, ranked as the most successful point of rural tourism in Serbia, will host this work camp for the third time. ZASAVICA

The Special Nature Reserve Zasavica is located west of Belgrade, along the Sava River, and covers 671 ha. This is one of the reserves with a very strong management system and in the last eight years it organised very successful international voluntary projects. Surrounded by the fragments of marshes, hygrophilous forests and meadows, the river ecosystem dominates the area. It is characterised by the presence of rare and endemic species of animals, being endangered not only in Serbia but also in Europe, such as the fish Umbra krameri and others.
