The local school was started in 1989. It was started through the initiative of the World Bank through the government of Kenya, Ministry of Education who were the brain child of the idea. World Bank started the school with the following objectives: a. To avail quality education to the pastoralists and nomad children and they moved seeking for greener pastures. b. To enable the Turkana child acquire quality education considering the limited number of schools in the area. c. To provide equal education opportunities to both boys and girls from the nomad community. d.

Ngunyumu River Bridge

Ngunyumu River Bridge is located in Athi division of Kitui South/Mutomo district curved off the larger Kitui district of Eastern Province of Kenya. Water is life and indeed precious commodity for the people of Eastern Kenya where the harsh climate conditions dictate the socio-economic lifeline of the people. Persistent drought coupled with famine have previously left in their wake very distraught population often left to depend on state handouts in the name of famine relief that is not adequate to ensure sustainability of livelihoods.

KEMAKOBA COMMUNITY HEALTH PROJECT

The shift from nomadism to pastoralism by the Masaai has brought about new health problems including escalation in sanitation related, infant childhood and water diseases. Access to health care both physically and culturally poses a critical issue for the predominantly rural population. 80% of the community is still dependent on herbal medicine which remains an important source of treatment for particularly the rural folk. Kenya is now developing a health provision strategy to incorporate herbal medicine in its strategy although this is being challenged by health providers.

SACRED MIJI KENDA KAYA FOREST

The Sacred Miji Kenda owes its existence to the cultural belief and history to the nine coastal Miji Kenda tribes. It is found a few metres from the Indian Ocean located near Diani Beach which is internationally recognized as a tourist destination. The project seeks to initiate and test the viability of eco tourism as a means of linking conservation to tangible social and economic benefits of the local community. Volunteers will work for six hours daily from Mondays to Fridays.

NYATEGE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Nyatege Primary School is a community initiative which was started in 2009 in Kisumu County. It has 150 students (60 male and 90 female), 3 teachers and each classroom has 2 streams each. The school currently has 3 permanent classes, 2 semi permanent classes, and the student’s capacity is higher than what the teachers can handle. This has led to overcrowding in classes and others study under trees. HIV/Aids is a major epidemic in Kisumu.

Ebusakami Community Driven Group

The project was founded in 2007 and thereafter registered under the social services in 2010. It has 313 members .It was started with the aim of eradicating poverty through income generating activities, horticulture practice and micro finance. Public health practice has remarkably similar functions that focus on populations rather than individual patients. Public health functions involve identifying health problems and the factors that cause them, developing a strategy to address these problems, and seeing that these strategies are implemented in a way that works.

Banepa 5

There are varities of works in this project. The main work is an environmental work in association with Saradadevi Community Forest Group. Volunteers will work together with the local people at the forest to help in plantation, taking care of trees, making fire lines, removing unnecessary grass etc. We have started to build a community house which will used by the local people as their meeting place. Volunteers also will be involved in the seasonal agricultural work to help to plant and harvest crops.
