Liam came on board with Xchange Scotland for 3 days under a work experience programme with his high school, he was asked to pick and organisation that reflected his passion and something he could possibly make a career in. Liam has an interest in international relations, social impact and making change, so of course we were his first choice!
Having Liam on board to remind us what young people are concerned, interested and have passion for made the team proud to be working for the same causes. Young people are thinking of what their future may be like and how organisations like us can make that brighter and so we wish Liam all the best in the future and hope to send him to Russia one day to make his future the brightest it can be!
“My 3-day work experience with Xchange Scotland was very enjoyable, different and unique. On the first day I was wary about what type of environment I would be walking into, but the staff that I met soon put me at ease as they were very kind and accommodating.
I was given a quick tour of the organisation by Martin Avila, the Director, who was very kind and understanding towards me. He told me a bit more about the history of Xchange Scotland and what they did overseas, including EVS and IVS. He then told me to produce a spreadsheet that required information on certain youth organisations around the world, which accommodate winter work camps and the age group required.
I met Carla, the development worker who was also very nice and accommodating.
I was placed next to David, who turned out to be very funny, very intelligent and understanding. He helped me alot during my placement and I am grateful to him for that. I also got to meet some of the international volunteers who were very nice to chat to and very welcoming.
I enjoyed the routine of the work placement and working with others really helped build my confidence and communication skills.
There is also an opportunity when I am older, to become an international volunteer, should I wish to become involved. I am very interested in Russia and this might be something that I would really consider.
I would like to thank everyone at Xchange Scotland for making me very welcome and allowing me this great experience. I wish them all the best for the future, as they continue to grow as a great organisation”.
