The "HA-O-MEK-KA" is a community where all the people work together, sharing knowledge about different topics such as nutrition (preparing natural local food, most of that vegetarian), herbal medicine (gardening, tailoring tinctures and ointments), vegetable planting, preparing compost, promoting the use of dry toilets, fruit harvest for transformation, seed and local plant conservation, domestic animal maintenance (chicken, sheep), experimental beekeeping, mushroom cultivation. All this within an integral vision for environmental sustainability. Another aim is to develop a local economy with the help of the Cotzalselch cooperative, who organises workshops and a store-cafeteria where the products of the cooperative are sold. Volunteers' tasks will depend on the weather conditions as well as on period of the year. Sometimes the work will be only in the community project, other times in the town with the local people. Activity consist of building a fish pond, as part of a treatment system for grey waters; constructing a wall, in order to expand the small jewellery school-workshop and open it to local people and volunteers. In free time, volunteers can participate in manual and craft activities, swimming in the river and walking to the waterfall.
